Make-over
champs
LAST MARCH, Costco invited members to
submit before-and-after photos of their
backyard make-over projects, with the first-,
second- and third-place finishers winning a
Costco Cash card in the amount of $500, $250
or $100, respectively.
First place goes to members James and
Julie Bennett, who transformed their back
yard into a water-park oasis, complete with
waterfalls, water slides and a swim-up bar.
Second place belongs to Dennis and
Ellen Schaefer, who wanted to created a place
of color, light and tranquillity.
Third place goes to Marty and Jan Njaa,
who took a dusty horse enclosure and made it
into a refuge from the world, where they can
lose themselves in the sound of running water
and a crackling fire. C

Four active boys and a desert-like environment motivated the
Bennetts to create the backyard project of all backyard projects,
which includes a water slide encased in simulated rock, a sandy
beach, four waterfalls, a spa, fire pit, covered barbecue area, outdoor
kitchen, dressing room and sun deck.
