Windows®Vista™ and widescreen displays
Windows Vista complements the advances in widescreen displays. Monitor
vendors who work closely with Microsoft offer Vista-certified displays that
take business applications, home use and entertainment to even higher levels.
Vista offers greater widescreen compatibility than ever before, with a host of
new features suited for the widescreen format, thus further improving desktop
efficiency and enhancing productivity.
For example, the Windows Sidebar feature is a pane on the side of the
desktop that organizes “gadgets,” giving users easy access to the applications
they use most, such as calculators, Web services and media players. In addition, Vista’s Windows Flip feature allows users to quickly flip through open
applications using the Alt+Tab control, which provides a live thumbnail of

Refer to your monitor’s user guide
for the optimum screen resolution. To
set the resolution, follow these steps:
1. Go to the “Settings” function
on your Windows “Start” menu and
select “Control Panel.”
2. Double-click on the “Display” icon.
3. Select the “Settings” tab.
4. Click and drag the Screen
Resolution slider until it reads
“1680 x 1050” or matches the
optimum resolution recommended
in the user guide.
5. Click “Apply” or “OK” to set the resolution. Your screen might flicker
momentarily as the resolution
resets.
6. Click “OK” again.
7. After the screen settings are
changed, a message box appears,
asking whether you want to keep
the new setting. Click “Yes” to keep
the settings.

the resolution, contact your vendor’s
customer support department for
further assistance.
With widescreen monitors, movies and pictures
shot in the new 16: 9 format are displayed in their
entirety—no more lost areas of the image. And for
other purposes, you can display several programs
on the desktop, enhancing productivity.
