eyebrows and eyelashes during chemotherapy.

Miltenberger (l) and Faber “We wanted something for women and children that was fast, convenient, stylish and comfortable,” Faber says of their customizable
headwear, which ranges from hats to scarves to snoggins (for
sleeping or staying warm) and costs between $7 and $25.
Faber handles the manufacturing side from her home in
San Diego, and Miltenberger the creative and the paperwork
aspects, but the two work together to pick out materials from
the Los Angeles garment district and to oversee production
at Melinda’s Sports Gear in National City, California.
In addition to their full-time jobs—Miltenberger, 37,
in printing, and Faber, 57, in landscape and real estate—
the two also run support groups and give seminars on
dealing with baldness.
Faber recounts, “One of our first clients told us that for
the first time since she had started this process [she was
undergoing chemotherapy], ‘I feel beautiful, and I can
devote my energy to fighting this disease.’ ”—Shana McNally
