Getting maximum
FDIC protection
GIVEN THE CURRENT economic climate, consumers would be wise to look for ways to maximize the
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) protection of their savings, retirement and other bank
accounts.
Capital One Direct Banking, Costco’s provider
of high-yield savings accounts and certificates of
deposit, offers members a distinct advantage with
FDIC coverage. They operate two separate banking
institutions—Capital One Bank (USA), N.A., and
Capital One, N.A.—both wholly owned subsidiaries
of Capital One Financial Corporation. Members can
take advantage of FDIC insurance coverage offered
by each of those institutions by opening separate
accounts through each.
FDIC protection is limited per depositor, per
ownership category and per institution. On October
3, 2008, FDIC temporarily increased protection from
$100,000 to $250,000 per depositor through December 31, 2009.

New phone service
rings true
THE SMALL-BUSINESS digital phone service
introduced by AccessLine earlier this year offers
big value and reliability to Costco members.
Here is what one early adopter has to say about
his experience.

RV refinancing
made easy
COSTCO’S NEW RV AND BOAT refinancing service provided by Essex Credit Corporation is sav-
ing money for members looking for lower
interest rates. Here’s what one couple reports
about refinancing their RV.
We’d had our motor home for about a year,
and the interest rate was quite high. We found
the refinancing program on costco.com, and got
a really good deal—enough of a savings that we
didn’t need to shop further.
It was so easy to do everything over the
phone, and the experience was surprisingly
pleasant. Usually working with refinancing people can be very clinical, but the Essex account
executive was so easy to work with.
