An insider’s guide to
Costco’s resources
IF YOUR TYPICAL warehouse shopping trip is to ogle the big-screen TVs, then
pick up steaks and head for the register, you may be missing some of the best
values Costco has to offer. Besides great products at great prices, Costco offers
a wide range of services and resources that enhance your membership. We’ve
compiled the following reference, which, while not comprehensive, will alert
you to some of these hidden values you may not have known about. Consider
it your own Costco insider’s guide.
In the warehouses
High-quality items at great prices are just part of the bargain in Costco warehouses. Here are some of the other things you’ll find.
Cash-card reader. If you have a Costco Cash card but are not sure how much
cash is left on it, look for the cash-card readers to see your balance. The red
kiosks are located near the front door or between the candy shelves and the
big TVs in all warehouses. (Your balance is also printed on your receipt.)
Cell-phone kiosk. Wireless phones and service plans are available from
companies such as T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T (depending on location).
Knowledgeable personnel can answer your questions regarding handsets
and carrier plans. And because they don’t work for the wireless companies,
they can help you choose the product that’s best for you. As a bonus for
Costco members, accessory packs with an ear bud, vehicle charger and a
case or belt clip are included with any phone purchase. (Note: Cell-phone
packages are also available on costco.com)
Health screenings and flu shots. Screening events are available in many
warehouse pharmacies to give you a heads-up on potential health problems.
Screenings cover osteoporosis, cardiovascular health, diabetes and allergies,
among others. Flu shots are also available in October and November. Check
your local Costco pharmacy for scheduled screenings.
Hearing Aid Centers. Hearing Aid Centers are located at more than 237
Costco warehouses, offering free hearing tests to determine if your hearing
loss could be helped by hearing aids. The centers offer numerous state-of-the-art products, such as the Kirkland Signature™ Premium Hearing Aids &
Accessory Kit, for much less than you’d pay elsewhere. A full list of Costco
Hearing Aid Centers is available on costco.com. Click on “In the Warehouse,”
then on “Hearing Aids.”
Membership desk. It’s the place to go for returns, membership renewals or
upgrades, new membership cards, credit-card applications and questions,
i ncluding product availability.
O ptical department. More than 380 Costco warehouses have optical depart-
m ents featuring designer frames and sunglasses, and many include on-site
i ndependent optometrists to provide thorough exams and prescriptions. For
i nformation on optical department locations, or frames, lenses and doctors,
visit costco.com, click on “In the Warehouse,” then on “Costco Optical,” or
s earch for “optical.”
