Costco in the community
It’s not enough for Costco to just do business in a community. We also
strive to take an active role. Here are some examples.
Fresh Start Backpack Program. Since 1993 Costco has donated nearly 2. 9
million backpacks to children in need in the United States, Canada, Mexico,
Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Puerto Rico and the UK. For those who might not have a
backpack, Costco provides a sturdy new backpack containing basic school
supplies at the beginning of the school year. Warehouse managers select a local
elementary school with a high rate of low-income families. To enter a school
in the program, contact a local warehouse manager for more information.
Charitable causes. Costco supports charities in communities where we conduct business. Areas of focus are children, their education, and health and
human services. Of particular note are Children’s Miracle Network and United
Way because they reach a large number of agencies that address local need s.
For more information on Costco’s charitable giving, including grants
and in-kind warehouse donations, visit costco.com, click on “Help,” then
on “Charitable Giving Guidelines” (listed under “Costco Information”).
Costco National Membership Programs (NMP). Costco’s NMP program
offers a variety of programs for businesses. Bulk purchases of Costco
Cash cards or Costco membership certificates can be used for customer/
employee recognition or gifts. The NMP offers special Costco membership opportunities designed for companies with more than 5,000 employees. E-mail NationalMembershipPrograms@costco.com or call toll-free
1-888-668-9668 for more information.
