HOW’S THIS FOR A PLAN to get in shape: Walk, jog and ride your bike
across the country on historic Route 66?
Well, that might be a little dangerous, and actually impossible in some
stretches. But you can do it virtually through AARP’s Get Fit on Route
66 program. Here’s how it works: You log in exercise minutes from any
workout you do. One minute of activity equals one mile on the route. As
you tally up the miles, your online vehicle will take you along the route,
passing famous highlights along the way.
How long will it take to cover the 2,448 miles from Chicago to Santa
Monica? That depends on how hard you’re working. If you average 30
minutes a day you’ll complete the route in about 12 weeks. Check out the
