JUST AS YOU NEED to dress differently for the different seasons, you need
to address the needs of your skin and hair during the changing conditions
throughout the year to keep them healthy and looking their best.
Spring and summer
This is the time of year to come out of hibernation, spend more time
outdoors and rejuvenate yourself after the long winter. Get your skin and hair
ready for the new season with these fresh and simple ideas.
Skin:
• Exfoliate. Use an exfoliating lotion regularly to free your body of rough,
dry skin that may have accumulated in the cold weather.
• Before you get out in the sun for an invigorating jog or a walk in the park,
prepare your skin. Use a mild,
fragrance-free body bar to cleanse
your face of any makeup prior to
exercising. The idea is to keep any
residue from clogging your pores
when you start to break a sweat.
This will ensure that your skin can
breathe the way it needs to when
you’re working out.
• When you’re finished running, biking,
planting flowers or any other outdoor
activity, be sure to cleanse again.
Perspiration is a large contributor
to acne and other skin issues. Also,
dust and dirt particles that accumu-
late while you spend time outside can cause rashes or outbreaks. A deep-cleansing body wash or body bar will keep these problems at bay.
Hair: While this is a great opportunity to show off your spring ’do, be aware
that sunny days, with additional humidity and UV rays, can wreak havoc on
your hair.
• To control frizz, try anti-frizz shampoo and conditioner together with a
mousse or serum. Be mindful that touching your hair often can break up
the formulas that help to keep frizz under control.
Fall and winter
Your skin endures harsh treatment in the fall and winter months. The blustery
cold outside and the artificial heat indoors can bring on rough spots and severe dryness. It’s important to revamp your skin-care routine to combat dry,
dull skin. Here are some tips to protect your skin during the winter, all day
and all night.
