THANKS TO TODAY’S MODERN haircutting equipment and some very helpful
how-to guides, you don’t have to go to the barbershop to get a great cut. Here
are some handy tips for the perfect haircut at home—a practice that can save
you lots of money over the course of a lifetime of a head of hair!
• Inspect your clipper to make sure it is free of hair and dirt, is properly
oiled and is running smoothly. Clean tools are the first step to success in
any project.
• It’s helpful to lay an old sheet on the floor to catch the clippings if you
want to save cleanup time.
• Place a towel or cape around the neck of the person getting the haircut.
• Seat the person so that his or her head is at your eye level. This gives you
greater visibility and control.
• Comb hair until it is tangle-free. Hold the clipper in a
comfortable grip.
• For a medium to long cut, begin
cutting only a small amount of
hair until you become familiar
with the length each attachment
leaves the hair. Try the longest
attachment on the clipper first.
If you want a shorter cut, you
can then use shorter combs.
• When cutting children’s hair,
use a specially designed, child-friendly blade. These blades
safely cut children’s hair without
pulling or tearing and without
sharp edges.
