German Raw Apple Cake
Holtzinger Fruit
2 1/4 cups flour
2 large eggs
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sour milk ( 1 tablespoon
vinegar + 1 cup milk)
2 cups peeled and thinly sliced

(Granny Smith, Jonagold or
Golden Delicious)
TOPPING
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 350°F.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, eggs, brown sugar, white sugar, salt, baking
soda, cinnamon, shortening and sour milk. Mix until well blended. Fold in apples.
Pour the batter into a greased 12-by-9-inch cake pan.
To prepare the topping, combine all ingredients and mix to blend. Sprinkle over the
cake batter.
Bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
