French Toast on the
Grill with Sausages

FRENCH TOAST
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
8 slices pound cake (1/2 inch thick)
Confectioners’ sugar
4 cups fresh blueberries, raspberries
and/or other berries (optional)
Maple syrup (optional)
Set up the grill for direct grilling and preheat to medium-high. Brush and oil the
grill grate.
Grill the sausages, turning frequently, until the casings are crisp and nicely
browned, about 5 minutes. Move the sausages to the perimeter of the grill or to a
warming rack.
To prepare the French toast, place eggs and maple syrup in a large, wide bowl.
Using a whisk, beat just to mix. Whisk in milk and vanilla.
Dip each slice of pound cake in the egg mixture, letting it soak for 2-4 seconds per
side. Place the cake slices on the hot grate on the diagonal and grill until lightly
browned, 2-4 minutes per side.
Transfer the French toast slices to a platter and sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar.
Serve with fresh berries and/or maple syrup. Makes 4 servings.
