Hobby pans out
In June of 2008, on a trip down California’s historic Highway 49,
Marianne Bush and her husband stopped by the town of Coloma. The
birthplace of California’s gold rush, Coloma offers historic attractions
such as an old school and the remains of the original jail.
It was at the re-created blacksmith shop that Bush struck gold. She
took several pictures there, and says she liked the image she submitted
best because of the details: “It’s perfect with the anvil in the front.”
Bush, who lives in Belmont, California, says her third-place win
marks the second time she’s entered a photo contest.
For Bush, photography is a hobby, and she particularly enjoys
taking pictures of birds. “It’s so much fun with a digital camera because
you don’t have to wait for the results,” she says. More of her images are
available at
www.flickr.com/photos/bush.
For her third-place photo Bush won a $500 Costco Cash card, a
Fuji QuickSnap Flash one-time-use camera and a photo album.
