THOUSANDS OF COSTCO members
have downloaded my free report, The
Belly Fat Cure™. It outlines a smart eating plan focused on watching sugar and
carbs to reduce your waist size—and
enjoy better health.
If you’re following this plan, keep at
it! If you want to download the report,

Meanwhile, I have been receiving
lots of questions on eating tips. Check
out video clips from Costco about some
great food ideas that I posted on my
Web site (address above). And here’s a
brief Q&A on other topics.
because sometimes thirst can be disguised as hunger.
Q: I get hungry between meals, and
that’s often where I go wrong. What
are some good snacks?
One of my favorite snacks is a handful of nuts—they’re quick and easy,
and great for you. Nuts have mono-unsaturated and polyunsaturated
fats, which are good for your heart
and have been shown to reduce
cholesterol. Try 10 walnuts,
almonds or pecans for a perfect
satiating afternoon snack.
Another good snack is
string cheese—you can even
have a couple. And remember also to drink plenty of
water throughout the day,
Q: Why should I focus on my waist circumference so much, rather than my
total weight?
Research has shown that your waist
circumference is the number-one predictor of health. A 2008 study that
tracked more than 350,000 people
revealed that a large waist circumference more than doubled the risk of
premature death. It has also been
linked to a long list of health risks,
including diabetes, heart disease,
dementia and hypertension.
This is because what increases
your waist size is something called visceral fat—a dangerous type of fat that
releases toxins and surrounds important internal organs, inhibiting their
ability to do their jobs and increasing
inflammation. Bottom line: If you’ve
got belly fat, it’s critical that you get
rid of it. C

Sure enough,

felt guilty for being upset

depressed about her weight than
ever. “I felt so self-conscious, and I
hated having to shop for matronly
blouses that would not cling to my
waist,” she says.
McGowen turned to the Belly
Fat Cure for help. After just one
week, she lost 7 pounds. Through
the next seven weeks, she lost a
pound or two every week up to a
total of 20 pounds and 7 inches.
“I feel trim, I am sleeping
well and I have plenty of energy,”
says McGowen. “The best part for
me, though, is something much
greater—the discovery that excess
sugar is dangerous to the immune
system. I thought I was eating
healthfully, and I had no idea how
much sugar was hidden in my low-fat foods; I was eating upwards of
200 grams per day!”
Unexpected indulgence:
“Green & Black’s 85 percent dark
chocolate; yummy!”
Added bonus: “I am now sleeping well and thinking more clearly.”
Best tip for success: “Bake
several chicken breasts at a time
and keep them in the refrigerator.
They can be sliced up and used for
chicken Caesar salad, chicken
nachos or chicken quesadillas.” C
