Debate goes on
In response to the September
Debate, “Is legislation the right way
to deal with cyberbullies?”
NO. Legislation wouldn’t do anything to prevent cyberbullying—all it would do is give the
government the authority to prosecute it after
the fact. Such prosecution (and the investigation that needs to go with it) would cost taxpayers a bundle.
I always find it amusing that we don’t
have money for education, but we always find
money for law enforcement.
George Ledo

YES. It would certainly help. Bullies need to
realize there will be consequences to their
actions. Mental abuse is as damaging as physical abuse and should be punished.
Christie Orendorf
Marietta, Georgia
NO. I think the problem is within the household. There aren’t enough parents educating
their children about the Internet, and they are
not giving the children the direction or support they need.
Ryan Martinez
Monument, Colorado
YES. Even though people have the right to
free speech, they also must be responsible for
any consequences of their actions.

In response to the August Debate,
“Should mail delivery be cut to five
days a week?”
NO. It would cause too many delays in ser-
vices—bills, packages and personal letters—
and impact business.
Heather Stone
Greenville, Texas
YES. Everything is going electronic. Checks
are deposited and bills are paid online. Why
waste time and resources on mail?

Odds and ends
Success without the stress
I was reading The Costco Connection and
was intrigued by your article “The importance of being relaxed” (Paul and Sarah
Edwards, Fresh Views, September 2009).
During these uncertain economic times, it is
definitely a challenge to relax.
Before the recession, we decided to go
into business once again for ourselves, this
time with a network marketing company.
With finding a passion for this company, we
have been able to work ourselves out of the
stressful construction world. Not that it has
never been a challenge learning, but it has been
rewarding helping others to achieve some of
the same freedoms we have. We find that our
business grows the more we enjoy ourselves.
We are learning how to work smarter
rather than harder, and have realized that the
more we help others, the more successful we
will be.

The greats of Roth
Although Suze Orman’s comments (“The
rates of Roth,” September 2009) concerning Roth
IRAs are correct, she neglected to mention one
of the most important advantages of the Roth.
Minimum distributions are required from a
regular IRA once you reach the age of 70. 5, while
no distributions are necessary from a Roth. Since
withdrawals are not necessary, this allows your
Roth to continue to earn money, and provides
untaxed inheritance for your heirs, another feature not discussed.

Working the network
“Is social networking right for you?”
(Rhonda Abrams, Fresh Views, August 2009)
had some great information, but my favorite
business network was not listed.
Biznik (
http://biznik.com) is specifically for
entrepreneurs and small-business folks. The
focus is on building relationships locally with
other businesspeople, to help each other be
successful in business. Members can post articles and make comments on articles to share
useful information about running a business.
It’s also about attending and hosting
events. Events can be social gatherings or
training opportunities as long as it’s somehow related to business.
Biznik was founded by a husband-and-wife team, and along with a couple of employees they share their passion by helping other
entrepreneurs succeed.
