A Costco Special Event features
Disney bridal gowns and more
FBy Anita Thompson FOR AN YONE LOOKING toward a spring or summer wedding, planning and purchas- ing are already in high gear. But there still may be many details to nail down: wedding bands,
the reception menu, ordering flowers, making
honeymoon reservations and more.
To help future brides achieve their
fairytale wedding on a budget, the Costco
warehouse in Issaquah, Washington, will be
hosting a very special Special Event from
January 28 to February 7, showcasing wedding merchandise. The centerpiece of this
event will be a selection of couture-style wedding gowns by renowned designer Kirstie

gowns are inspired by six of the Disney princesses: Ariel, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine,
Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. The wedding gowns range in size from 4 to 24, with
three Red Label (plus size) designs in sizes 16
to 32. In addition to the bridal dresses, Kelly’s
Maiden (bridesmaid) and Princess Blossom
(flower girl) dresses will also be available.
Kirstie Kelly launched her company 13
years ago, designing fine evening wear using
couturier construction methods. Her specialization in wedding gowns resulted from
custom orders from socialites in Los Angeles
and San Francisco. “What was lacking in the
industry was clean, draped gowns,” Kelly, a
Costco member, tells The Connection. “That is
the style of our brand—there is a lot of detail,
but it is quiet detail.”

“The quality of these gowns is on par with
couture dresses,” she continues. The finest silk
fabrics are used—chiffon, dupioni, satin. The
interior details—boning, lining and corset-
ing—provide support for the body and make
the fabric lie smoothly. “We make these gowns
in a way that each is very special,” Kelly says.
“The quality and unique character of
these gowns are exceptional,” agrees Kara
Hawker, Special Events buyer. “Any bride
who’s shopping for a wedding gown shouldn’t
miss this event. Kirstie Kelley gowns typically
retail for between $2,500 and $4,000. We’ll be
offering these exquisite dresses for an average
40 percent savings. When this event was held
in Westlake Village, California, every woman
looked stunning.” C
When Kelly got the call from the Disney
Consumer Products group to collaborate on
the design of wedding gowns, she spent a year
watching the Disney films and created a personality profile for each of the six princesses.
“My background is creating clothing for personalities and helping people create an image
of themselves,” Kelly explains. “It was fascinating to design gowns based on princesses and
have them relate to the personality traits of
