We lived for two years with our little sofa,
hiding its hideous upholstery pattern under a
neutral tan cover. In the summer of 2003, we
were preparing to move, and we began showing the apartment to would-be renters.
One young couple looked around the
apartment, mapping out where things might
go and taking a few measurements. The man
explained he had lived on this block for a few
years and then began looking more closely at
the sofa. “In fact ... this is the sofa that I got rid
of about two years ago and put on the curb.”
This was a bit awkward. “Well, I guess I
owe you some thanks, because that’s where we
found it!”
Today our little Brooklyn street curb sofa
with the wild paisley pattern, ugly colors, tears
and duct tape adorns our daughters’ room as
the reading sofa for bedtime stories. We still
keep it “under cover” but would greatly appreciate your help to replace our sad sofa.

“Well, oookaaaaay, how long could it last?”
Well, the springs have sprung on the back
and seat area, giving it that meltdown look.
Saddest of all is that it is made from some type
of super-industrial-strength corduroy that
just won’t wear out.
I’m patient, I could wait to get the sofa of
my dreams in a year ... or two.... I could and I
would ... just wait ... and I’m ... still waiting ...
