color-and-light outdoor show.
All holiday lights, including the energy-saving LEDs sold at Costco and Costco.com,
are UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc., tested
and listed and feature ConstantON technology (if one light goes out, the rest stay lit).

Snowflakes, snowballs, finials, onion
tops, candy canes and pine cones are among
the ornament shapes available at Costco
The hand-decorated glass Christmas
ornaments feature four color schemes: red
and white; silver and white; red and gold;
pewter and bronze. All four sets offer beautifully beaded, flocked, frosted glass and jeweled embellishments.
At only $26.99 per box of 16, Kris notes,
“our price averages out to $1.69 per glass
ornament. Some retailers sell similar pieces
for as much as $12 each.”

wrapping paper in Costco warehouses. Printed
in Europe with vibrant oil-based, eco-friendly
inks, options include embossed papers, reversible papers (two choices for the price of one)
and decadent foils. There are also Disney
prints, some with glittery three-dimensional
holographic wraps for the kiddies.
Up on the rooftop
If you prefer hardier décor, the new
48-piece, hand-painted shatterproof sets are
stunning. They sell at just $34.99 (73 cents
each) per tote, which means you can dress a
9-foot tree with 192 new ornaments (four
totes) for about $140.
Pallets of traditional and wire-edged ribbons, pre-made bows, conventional and handmade cards, and the cutest handmade gift tags
I’ve ever seen top off the possibilities nicely.
The nine-piece statuary-esque outdoor
Nativity scene available in the warehouses
this year is striking, as is the Philips silver
string LED 50-inch sleigh with bells and
prancing 60-inch horse. (Costco.com piggybacks the sleigh and horse with a matching
60-inch lamppost, 42-inch feeding doe
and 60-inch standing buck.)
I suggest purchasing the indoor/outdoor,
six-piece oversize (25-inch circumference)
shatterproof ornaments for your banister or
mantel. Fair warning: These behemoth beauties sold out in a blink last year.
Costco.com lifts gift-wrapping to new
heights with battery-operated LED embedded gift bow sets. Attach them to gifts or even
the tree. (LED-embedded 9-foot ribbon sets
are also offered, but they cannot be cut or
used to wrap gifts. Instead, use them to adorn
banisters or the center of the holiday table.)
For the walkway, I predict a quick sellout
in warehouses of the Westinghouse oversize
five-piece old-fashioned, solar holiday lights
(less than $25). They remind me of the big old
colored lights we used to string on our
The new indoor/outdoor 6-foot nutcracker made of wood-like resin and the
4-foot bronze-like resin Santa and boy statue
are also sure to be hits. Include one or both in
the family Christmas photo.
Deck the halls
Warehouses offer artificial, pre-decorated
9-foot Kirkland Signature garlands for less
than $37. (Kirkland Signature garlands without decorations are also available.)
Do you see what I see?
You can also find potted artificial holiday
poinsettias and 24- and 48-inch glass votive
Christmas centerpieces for mantels or tables.
Hark—the poinsettias sold out in two weeks
I’ll be on the hunt for the shatterproof six-piece indoor/outdoor, oversize candy cane
ornaments for $24.99, as well as Disney’s
Many holiday treasures are not offered in
all warehouses. Ask at the warehouse by item
number if these are available.
Appearing in several regions are elegant
glass water globes with battery-operated blowers to circulate “snow” (Item #983983).
Mickey and Friends 55-inch holiday knit
stockings for less than $24.50 and Blue Sky
Clayworks artist Heather Goldminc’s exclu-sive-to-Costco “The Night Before Christmas,”
a 19-inch tall tea-light snowman. (Read about
Blue Sky and Heather Goldminc on page 39.)
COSTCO WAREHOUSES and Costco.com also
offer live holiday foliage.
If you have children (or grandchildren),
try to get your hands on the adorable children’s 16-piece wooden Nativity set (Item
#842842). The new Kirkland Signature
19-piece, hand-painted Nativity scene with
faux gold-leaf accents is available everywhere.
More pre-decorated and hand-designed
centerpieces, mantelpieces, wreaths and garlands are offered on Costco.com. Pay particular attention to the 9-foot, pre-lit 300-light
garland. I’ve not encountered anything like it
outside the realm of professional decorators.
It’s great for railings, counters or tables.
Handmade 28-inch evergreen wreaths
and foil-wrapped poinsettia plants arrive in
warehouses in mid-November. Amaryllis
and unique regional floral treasures arrive
mid-month. Hanukkah arrangements are
available at Costco and on Costco.com
Fresh holiday centerpieces appear the
week before Thanksgiving through Christmas.
(The warehouse membership desk can help
with special requests for multiple center-
pieces, but plan on a two-week lead time.)
Don’t forget to check Costco warehouses
for holiday storage containers. I’m particularly happy with the nifty expandable and
rolling tree dolly that holds up to a 9-foot
disassembled artificial tree (see What’s New
on page 78), rolling three-drawer ornament
chest with 72 cushioned pockets (limited
locations, Item #730730) and round zippered
container that holds up to a 36-inch wreath
Happy Christmas—and holiday season—
to all, and to all a good-night! C
Jolly old Saint Nicholas
For every Bobby who wants a pair of
skates and Suzy with her sled, there is a Santa
staying up late into the night wrapping.
Costco.com offers freshly cut Fraser fir
Christmas trees, and a beautiful selection of
natural wreaths, evergreen garlands and
swags, centerpieces, pine and red cedar door
arches, and noble fir candy canes.—PV
Thank goodness for the holiday-themed
Important to note: Unless otherwise noted, all
artificial holiday décor, as well as ornaments,
ribbons and bows, is for indoor use only. Also,
prices listed in this article may vary slightly
due to shipping and handling.
