A VETERINARIAN might seem like an
odd choice for relationship advice;
however, if the vet is Costco member
Dr. Kenneth Ryan, he
just might be the right
choice. Although his job
is doctoring animals,
Ryan has found another
calling—doctor of love.
Ryan, who has spent
more than 10 years as a
volunteer premarital
counselor, along with
his wife, Dorothy, felt it
was important to pass on the expertise
he had gleaned to a wider audience.
“After talking with so many couples
over the years about sex and relationships, I wanted to share my insight with
my three teenage daughters so they
would know more about men and
relationships,” says Ryan, who lives
with his family in Elkton, Virginia.
“I decided to write it down, and it
turned into a book, not only for my
daughters, but for any single woman
who longs to ;nd a quality guy who
will cherish her for a lifetime,” says
Ryan, who also offers advice on local and
national radio. The book, which features
such chapters as “Learn to Talk with
Guys,” “Don’t Sleep with Him—Why
Not” and “Rational Relationships,” is
called Finding Your Prince in a Sea of
Toads: How to Find a Quality Guy
Without Getting Your Heart Shredded

JERR Y GOFFE
94 ;e Costco Connection FEBRUARY 2012
Jerry Goffe got the idea
to shoot flowers out of
focus and print them
on poster board to use
as backgrounds for a
hummingbird photo
workshop. When his
Albuquerque Costco
Photo Center called to
say they had tried but
weren't able to fix the
out-of-focus shots, he
laughed and explained
that was the effect he
was after.—Steve Fisher
