In response to the April Debate,
“Do the benefits of ‘fracking’
outweigh the risks?”
Debate goes on
YES. Any effort to look for new energy sources
is to be encouraged.

NO. The fracking process contaminates underground aquifers and people’s water supply.
David Esmeyer

YES. We need alternate sources of energy and
this is one that needs to be tapped into, taking
the necessary precautions.
Ruben Abril
Westminster, Colorado
NO. There is not enough research on the
fracking process to determine its impact on
fragile ecosystems.

Thanks for the great article on the Muppets
[“Of men and muppets,” April 2012]. Similar to
Jason Segel, I’m a Muppet fanatic, and I can
shamelessly proclaim that I’m a 40-year-old
whose favorite movie of all time remains the
original 1979 Muppet Movie. And, I have a
shrine to Jim Henson in my office. The older I
get, the more I resonate with the lyrics of “The
Rainbow Connection” ... few people really get
how deep this is in terms of the “anything is
possible if you believe in yourself” story
embedded in all of the Muppet movies. Thank
you for bringing the real meaning of “Muppet
mania” to light in your sharp and witty article.

Pet prescriptions
My West Highland terrier, Daisy, has
been on medication most of her life. The easiest way I have found to give her the daily pills
[“Give the dog a pill,” April 2012] is to coat
them with either peanut butter or cream
cheese. I either feed her from my finger or put
it in her dog dish. Works every time! I will
also be checking on getting my dog’s prescriptions at Costco [“Costco pharmacies lower
the cost of pet healthcare”] on my next visit.

Kirkland Signature sliced turkey
Your new Kirkland Signature™ sliced turkey [“Yes, it’s real turkey,” What’s New, April
2012] is the bomb! It is so good it tastes just
like I carved it fresh and made a sandwich. It
is thicker than most sandwich meat you buy,
which makes it even better. Keep it coming.

I’d rather you didn’t wrap the rolls in anything, but if you must, let it go back to the
paper wraps.

Hail Cesarean Awareness
I was so happy to see that you included
in the [April] issue of The Costco Connection
a mention of Cesarean Awareness Month.
More than one in three women in the
U.S. are faced with surgical births, which is
way higher than it should be. Women are not
broken ... women can birth their babies
themselves, with the help of knowledgeable
doctors and/or midwives, and with less intervention, which can be the leading cause of
cesarean birth.
Thank you for listing the facts from ICAN.
Women need to know they have options for
birthing their babies, and choices that are
available to them.

Skinny on fat
[In the article “The skinny on fat,” March
2012] there was no differentiation made
between saturated fat from grass-fed beef and
saturated fat from industrial beef. Since fat is
the place where toxins are held, the saturation
is not the issue, the toxic load is. You won’t
catch me eating industrial beef, but I enjoy my
