MOST PERFORMERS ASPIRE to stardom. Few
make it. Even fewer make it beyond stardom.
What is beyond stardom, you might ask? Legend.
Legends are rare, but Carol Burnett is one.
In her 57-year career, the actress, 79, has
starred on Broadway, on television, and in films.
But most fans revere her for the 11 years she
entered our homes on CBS. Her boisterous band
of comic geniuses and big-name guest stars
made us laugh for an hour until her usual
sign-off, tugging her ear and singing, “I’m so
glad we had this time together.”
The Connection connected with Ms.
Burnett by phone to talk about her career
and her iconic television series, The Carol
Asked how it feels to be a legend,
she answers, “Old. I guess if you’re
around more than 20 years it starts. If it
is over 50 years, then, if you’re still
talking, then you become a legend. I
think it has to do with longevity.”
