NO. Fluoridation of the public water supply
is, ultimately, unethical. It is an uncontrolled medicating of the public population,
with no dosage control and no monitoring
for side effects.

YES. The United States Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention named community
water fluoridation as one of the 10 greatest
public health achievements of the 20th century. Today, many Americans face barriers to
accessing professional dental services. The
negative effects that tooth decay can cause
on both oral and systemic health are significant, and can even include death. In light of
these facts, to eliminate water fluoridation
would be reckless and only hurt the most
vulnerable in our society.

Scott Jurek and going the distance
As an experienced ultrarunner myself, I
was quite pleasantly surprised to see Scott
Jurek on the cover of the June Costco Connection,
and the article from Julie Hagy within that
didn’t epitomize the sport as excessive as others
often do. With a family of five and as ultrama-rathon race director of the Outrun 24 Hour
Trail Race, I heavily utilize and rely upon my
local Mayfield Heights, Ohio, Costco for fresh
food and event supplies. It is always exciting to

see fresh and organic products, vegetarian
options and items like U-Bake Oatomic Energy
Bars. I have tried to make sure that the runners
(and family members) I feed at my races are
getting as much real, whole foods as possible
and, quite frankly, I can do that with Costco at
a fair cost.

I am a marathon swimmer, having completed the Catalina Channel last year. It is a
20-mile swim—farther when currents are
taken into account. I have greatly appreciated
the quantity and quality of fresh foods I can
get at your store.
