London Dry Gin
GIN’S COLORFUL HISTORY places it
among soldiers preparing for battle, in doctors’ offices as a legitimate ailment remedy
and in bathtubs during Prohibition. Today,
it enjoys a much classier reputation, as
many consider it refined to order a gin martini or cocktail (think Mad Men).
This refinement is one reason Costco
developed London Dry Gin under Costco’s
Kirkland Signature™ private label. Matt
Mize, spirits, wine and beer buyer for
Costco, says the gin is five times distilled,
which makes it very smooth, and it has a
unique flavor profile. “There’s nothing else
like it on the market,” he says. Matt admits
that he wasn’t much of a gin drinker until
he began developing this product, which
took a full year to bring to market.
The gin is steeped with nine botanicals,
including classic juniper berries, coriander,
orange peel, cassia bark, orris root, cardamom pods, lemon peel, angelica root and
rose. While some distilleries use artificial
flavors or essential oils during the distillation process, real fruit, spice, flower and
root botanicals are infused into Kirkland
Signature London Dry Gin (the name does
not denote the spirit’s origin—it is made in
California) during the final distillation.
This 1.75 liter bottle is a top-notch
value for a first-rate beverage. In warehouses now. (Item #917100).
