THE DAYS OF the
spartan dorm room
have passed. Technology
helps to provide enter-
tainment or isolation for
studying from the noise
pong in the
halls. But what
ment? It’s not
to run to the local convenience store
or campus commissary. We have two
items to help make every student’s
dorm room a home away from home.
First, there’s the Oster Microwave.
With 0.9 cubic foot of space, 900 watts
of cooking power, six cooking functions and 10 variable power levels, it’s capable
of prepping the inevitable ramen noodles,
soup in a cup, popcorn, prepared meals, beverages and so much more. A digital timer pro-
vides easy reading and a removable glass
turntable makes cleaning (yes, college students
do clean on occasion) a snap. Item #996652.
For personal food storage of these various
repasts, as well as a place to keep fruits, vegetables and beverages cold, we
have the Hisense 3.3-cubic-
foot compact refrigerator.
Unlike the little cubes
students used to have in their
dorm rooms, this fridge has
many of the features of a full-size refrigerator, such as a
true freezer compartment, a
transparent vegetable crisper
and two glass shelves. And it’s
And, to complete the homey feeling, you
can put a picture of the family on the fridge. C
WITH NO measuring,
no mess and no overuse, single-load liquid
laundry detergent pacs
have quickly become a
staple for millions of
It’s no surprise that
the conveniently premeasured Kirkland
Signature™ Ultra Clean
Laundry Detergent Pacs
are a go-to laundry product for many of our
members and their college-bound children.
These pacs provide the same great performance as Kirkland Signature Ultra Liquid
Laundry Detergent, and include a
polymer that effectively isolates
and removes dirt and stains.
We’ve also increased the loads per
container to 130 pacs, reducing
the cost to 13 cents per load, a
minimum of 30 percent savings
compared to national brands.
However, how often do we
stop and think about laundry pac
safety? Whether the detergent is
being used at home, off-campus or in a
dorm, it’s important to take precautions. As
the mother of two boys, I know accidents can
happen quickly. Laundry pacs contain highly
concentrated detergent and should always be
stored, just like any other household cleaning
product, out of reach and sight of children.
Costco has taken actions to create safer
packaging by transitioning from clear to opaque
containers, adding safety icons and cautionary
language, and introducing a locking-lid feature.
In addition, Costco recently added Bitrex, the
world’s most bitter substance, which makes the
detergent unpalatable. Over the years, Bitrex
has become one of the world’s leading safety
components for improving family safety.
Costco has also partnered
with the American Cleaning
Institute to remind consumers
how to prevent injuries from
accidental ingestion or eye
exposure: Store laundry pacs
out of reach and sight of children; keep laundry pacs in their
original container; do not let
children handle laundry pacs.
