As a journeyman carpenter I con-
stantly struggle with
that will pay a fair
wage. I won’t work
for peanuts and it drags my value
down when people do. Skilled
labor isn’t cheap; cheap labor
It is not a real shortage. It is a
function of companies
wanting exactly the
skill set of the person
they just let go, only
for a lot less money. And it’s not
just tech; it’s all employers.
Is the talent
It is harder and harder to find
people who will
actually show up
and work. Too many
want to be paid but
not put in the work.
I think there’s a shortage of tal-
ent appreciation out
there. The talent is
here, but we’re tired
of being treated like
we don’t matter. So I gave up

job openings across a number of key industries in the United
States, yet many people are unemployed and looking for
work. Some say this is due to a lack of skilled workers.
Others say the perceived shortage is more about businesses
that are unwilling to effectively source and/or pay for talent.
