I was horrified to read the advice to throw
medicines in the trash [“Safe disposal of
drugs,” February 2016]. That is horrendous
contamination of our groundwater.
There have been campaigns everywhere
discouraging everyone to stop this dangerous,
antiquated practice. Please, use your influence to reverse the decades of poisoning our

Thumbs up for “Helping hands”
Kudos to The Costco Connection for
acknowledging occupational therapists
[“Helping hands,” April 2016] who address
not only hand and wrist pain but so much
more, especially in April as it is OT [occupational therapy] month. We as [occupational
therapists] treat people across the life span
who have a variety of diagnoses and deficits,
from sensory-integration deficits and fine-motor problems in children to adults who are
having difficulty taking care of themselves
and being safe in their home. For more information visit aota.org. Thanks again.

The May 2015 article “Targeting Lyme
Disease,” by Andrea Downing Peck was a true
winner for me. I served in the Air Force for 14
years, and I was discharged due to a mysterious illness that doctors did not understand.
In 1985, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.
I had been treated unsuccessfully for over 3
decades. The article was essentially the answer
to my medical mystery. It encouraged me to
study Lyme disease and my military records
back to 1982. I began treatment in January
2016. The treatment was the best thing that
happened to me. Before treatment I was suffering with severe photophobia and was
nearly blind. My overall health outlook
changed from near death to a very positive
outlook for the future.
