IF YOU ARE the parent of school-age children, you do everything you can to ensure
they have a good school year—from buying
school supplies and clothes to prepping and
packing healthy lunches. But have you done
everything to ensure your kids will have a
good future?
As you may know, Costco helps with
everything for back to school, including
clothes, school supplies and electronics.
Costco also makes services available through
third-party providers to help you protect the
future you want for your children in case
you’re not around.
Protective Life Insurance Company
(“Protective”) provides Costco members an
easy way for parents or anyone else interested
in life insurance to get the coverage they
need—with considerable savings compared to
similar products in the market.
“Our goal has always been to help provide
people with a competitive, accessible option
for life insurance,” says Aaron Seurkamp,
senior vice president and chief sales officer for
Protective. “And Protective’s relationship with
Costco does that by providing members with
an exclusive product.”
The simple online application process
makes it easy to get a free quote. In addition
to allowing Costco members to apply online,
Protective recently updated its website to pro-
vide materials to help educate members about
both the product and the process of buying
life insurance.
“We know that people, especially parents,
are busy. There are so many demands on
them,” Seurkamp says. “So we want to make it
as easy as possible for them to get the cover-
age they need for their family and to feel con-
fident about the whole process.”
According to the Life Insurance
Marketing and Research Association 2016
Insurance Barometer Study ( limra.com), 32
percent of people who own life insurance
indicate that providing for a college education
is one reason they decided to purchase this
coverage. Among members of Generation X,
that figure rises to 45 percent, and among
millennials it’s 57 percent.
However, Seurkamp says, most people
often underestimate how much coverage
their family will need; as a result, they might
not obtain enough to cover all their protection needs.
Some experts recommend a coverage

Generally, people are advised to also factor in the amount it will cost to send their
children to college in order to arrive at the
general amount of coverage they might want
to consider.
In addition to underestimating the level of
coverage needed, many people overestimate
what life insurance costs, Seurkamp adds. He
encourages Costco members without life
insurance to take a few minutes to get a free

Costco member John Lane of Aurora,
Colorado, was shopping for life insurance
online last year, and he was pleasantly sur-
prised to receive an email from Costco about
Protective. “I do remember the price was the
best and the process the easiest,” he says. “I
had been shopping for quite some time. I did
not realize Costco sold life insurance.”
Lane says he was impressed by the hassle-
free, streamlined application process, nonin-
vasive interview and swiftly scheduled
physical. “It went quickly—faster than the
rest,” he says. C
