FROM HEALTH INSURANCE MARKETPLACE
Things to
consider before
open enrollment
OPEN ENROLLMENT for health insurance begins November 1, 2016, and ends
January 31, 2017. For a January 1 effective
date, members must purchase individual
health insurance by December 15, 2016.
Business owners can purchase health
insurance for their company at any time
throughout the year.
Here are some things to consider
before choosing a health insurance plan.
• Evaluate your current medical coverage: Do you need to adjust your deductible,
co-pay or reimbursement amount?
• Consider adding vision and/or dental
coverage for the new year.
• Review and consider if you need to
add a health savings account.
• Find out if your prescriptions are still
covered in the new year.
• Evaluate your co-pays for doctor visits and prescriptions.
• Ask if your plan will cover mail-order
pharmacy items.
• Decide if you want to purchase a plan
that offers a wellness benefit—e.g., a gym
membership discount.
• Determine the importance of having
a telemedicine option included.
• Find out if your current doctor or
specialist will still be in network with your
current plan, or if you need to find a new
plan that covers your current doctor and/
or specialist.
Costco members and business owners

BREAST CANCER HAS affected the lives
of millions of families (see the article on
page 69). The only way to fight it is
through awareness, research and treatment.
This research helps save lives, and one day
may stamp out breast cancer for good.
The Pink Ribbons Project (pinkribbons.
org) was started in 1995 by two sisters,
Susan Rafte and Jane Weiner, after Rafte was
diagnosed with the disease. The project
grew tremendously and raised awareness of
breast cancer, as well as significant funding
for research, medication and care. Today,
many businesses offer pink-themed products to promote Breast Cancer Awareness
Month in October.
Don’t forget to

on your next
trip to Costco.
