Quick Parties
Schwan’s Pizza Story and Topping Tips
Marvin Schwan began Schwan’s Home Service in 1952
with one 1946 Dodge panel van and 14 gallons of ice
cream. He took his ice cream to homes, and the route
delivery system was born.
Since then the company has expanded greatly. Frozen pizza
was added to the delivery trucks in 1965. Today, Schwan’s
is the world leader in frozen pizza production. Their pizza
brands include Tony’s, Red Baron and Freschetta.
So, plan a quick party the easy way—just heat up a pizza
and serve.
Costco Tip:
To add a little
extra pizzazz to
a pizza party,
we suggest
adding toppings
to 3 out of 4
equal sections
of each pizza
and then letting
people select their favorites. For example, you might add
cooked shrimp, fresh garlic and a drizzle of olive oil to
one section, extra cooked ham and sautéed mushrooms
to another, and then perhaps banana, ham and pineapple
to the other. As for the last section, leave it alone for the
purists in the crowd.
Countryside Baking Old World
Fruit Rugala à la Mode
Rugala, pronounced rug-gala, is a rolled pastry made of
paper-thin dough that was created by the royal chef for the
king of Hungary in 1522. Countryside Baking has taken all
the hassle out of this delicacy, which makes it an ideal
dessert for unexpected guests.
All you have to do is remove four pieces of apple cinnamon
or raspberry walnut rugala* per serving from the package
and reheat for 4 minutes at 350°F.
Arrange the 4 warmed pieces of rugala around the outside of
a dessert plate and place a large scoop of vanilla ice cream in
the center.
Sprinkle the
dessert with
cinnamon or
drizzle with
your favorite
ice cream
topping.
