New arrivals: March 2012
Region
The vineyards that produce this wine are located
in the Uco Valley in the Mendoza region of
Argentina. This valley, recognized as an oasis for
grape growing, is in a high-altitude area where the
soil remains fertile due to the melting snow from the
Andes Mountains. The unique growing conditions
contribute to an exceptional wine produced from
Malbec grapes that ripened to perfection.
2010 Kirkland Signature Argentina Malbec
Food and wine pairing
This Kirkland Signature Malbec wine pairs well
with roasted and grilled meats. The structure of the
wine enhances the flavors of the full-bodied red
meats. Balance is a key attribute of this wine.
2010 Kirkland Signature Rutherford Meritage
Region
In the heart of Napa Valley lies the American
Viticultural Area (AVA) known as Rutherford. This
is one of Napa’s highest-quality regions, best known
for its production of Bordeaux varietals, including
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc,
Malbec and Petit Verdot.
Some like to say it is a combination of sun, soil and
the vintner’s art. Regardless, all agree that this AVA,
with just over 6,600 acres, is the source of some of
the best wines in all of Napa Valley.
Food and wine pairing
Rutherford wines typically have hints of what
locals romantically call “Rutherford dust.” It is hard
to pinpoint the source of these sweet, dry, supple
tannins. Some claim it is the gravel, loam and sandy
soils, as well as the volcanic deposits that drain so
well and help to push the grapevines’ roots deeper.
This Kirkland Signature Rutherford Meritage is
a great choice to accompany beef, lamb chops, rib
roast or grilled tenderloin. The dense, ripe black
fruit notes and the firm, grippy tannins balance the
dense, succulent notes of beef and lamb.
