Steady temperatures during spring promote even fruit sets, thus encouraging individual berries to ripen more uniformly. Cool summer fog mitigates the heat, and grape maturation occurs at a slower rate. This greater hang time means more flavor and supple tannins without high alcohol in the finished wine. Alexander Valley is known for producing wines of great elegance, with fresh fruit flavors and considerable complexity.
