Bordered by the Moray Firth to the north and the Cairngorm Mountains to
the south, the Speyside region is home to various world-class single malt
Scotch whisky distilleries. The fresh spring water from the river Spey,
combined with the region’s temperate climate, create optimal growing
conditions for the high-quality barley, a key ingredient in Speyside’s
famously refined single malt Scotch whiskies. Speyside single malts are
noted for their elegance and complexity, and often a refined smokiness.
This 18-year-old malt Scotch whisky was made at the Macallan Distillery in a pot still, using barley that had
been malted as the only grain ingredient. The water to produce this Scotch whisky was drawn from the river
Spey, and is soft and pure, with ideal levels of minerals and salts for the yeast to ferment the malted barley.
The Macallan Distillery uses the smallest spirit stills in Speyside to
produce this single malt Scotch whisky. The stills are made of copper
so they are resistant to wear, malleable and conduct heat superbly.
Their unique size and shape give the spirit maximum contact with the
copper, helping to concentrate the “new make” spirit with those rich,
full-bodied flavors so characteristic of Scotch whisky produced at this
world-famous distillery. This Kirkland Signature Single Malt Scotch
Whisky was aged for 18 years in oak bourbon casks, then moved to
Sherry butts for 6 months. The Sherry imparts aromas and flavors
of dried fruits, spice, carmel and orange.
