Kirkland Signature 10-Year-Old Tawny Porto has been created by blending the very finest aged tawnies from one of the wine world’s oldest demarcated regions of the Douro Valley of Portugal. As with all aged tawnies this wine is a blend of wines with an average age of 10 years. Working with the globally renowned blending and winemaking team that also produces many great Fonseca Portos, our partners have created a rich, nutty, 10-year-old Tawny Porto that will seduce the senses.

First, the grapes are handpicked from the dramatically terraced Douro Valley vineyards. The baskets are gently taken to the winery where the grapes are macerated over three days. On the third day, half the natural sugars have been converted to alcohol and the fermentation arrested by the addition of neutral grape spirit (144 proof or 70 alc./vol. 4 parts must to 1 part spirit). The young port is immediately placed in wood to age until it is ready for blending. Kirkland Signature 10-Year-Tawny was racked once a year and matured slowly in the cool cellars of the coastal town of

Vila Nova de Gaia, across the Douro River from Porto. Over ten years this Tawny was aged in neutral European oak casks of approximately

550 to 630 L in volume. The casks are chosen for their neutrality so that the wood does not impart flavors into the wine, as a result, all flavors are formed during the oxidative maturation in the casks.

Our tawny features delicious flavors of nuts, caramel and dried fruit interlaced with notes of ripe oranges. Excellent acidity and structure balances the sweetness of the wine and has a long, elegant finish.
