Tuscan estates like the producer of Kirkland Signature Bolgheri aligned the grape clusters to face the east as the leaf canopy shaded the grapes to avoid over- ripening grapes and to preserve precious acidity. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot were picked from the select vineyards of Bolgheri. The owners of this delightful land have paid close attention to its ecological vocation and landscape. In the Bolgheri Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) zone this vineyard site is both the closest to the sea and the highest in altitude, stretching from the plains up to the hills. The spectacular view from the vineyard extends from Baratti in the south to Castiglioncello in the north, including the islands of the Tuscan archipelago (Elba, Gorgona and Capraia, with Corsica in the background). The land, which is very well-suited to the production of great red wines, is considered to be among the most beautiful in the Bolgheri area.

This Kirkland Signature red wine from Bolgheri is from the Super

Tuscan region that was initiated by the development of Sassicaia and Ornellaia. The dominant grapes are Bordeaux varietals. The Cabernet and Merlot grapes were vinified separately and maceration took 15 to

21 days in large stainless steel tanks. The resultant wine was a deep, dark color with soft tannins. The wine was matured in small French oak barrels where malolactic fermentation was completed. After racking the wine spent an additional 14 months in barrel and almost two years in bottle before release.

This Kirkland Signature red wine from Bolgheri is comprised of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. This Cabernet-dominated Super Tuscan is produced in the traditional manner and hails from the prestigious Bolgheri DOC zone in Tuscany’s southern coast. This opaque, fruit-forward wine is beautiful now and will continue to develop dimension and character for the next five to seven years.
