This Kirkland Signature red wine is from Margaux, one of the six communal appellations where the great majority
of the Grands Crus and finest châteaux are located. It is often said that the Margaux appellation is the most
feminine appellation in Bordeaux. The main characteristic of the Margaux appellation is elegance due to the poor
gravelly soil and high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon. The 80-acre vineyard sits as it did three centuries ago,
in one piece of land facing the château, unchanged and undivided. The vineyard site has natural drainage, which
accounts for delicacy and finesse. As neatly tended as flower beds, the vines throw their roots deep into the soil in
order to find vital drops of water and nutrients.
Traditional cultivation methods including plowing, pruning, leaf thinning and grape trimming were used to
preserve healthy and delicious grapes for this Kirkland Signature red wine from Margaux. Starting with the 2005
vintage, modern fermentation rooms were used, housing electronically
operated stainless steel vats specially designed to match a selected grape
varietal picking program. The selected grapes then went through a cold
steeping process for extraction while preserving aromas. Temperature-controlled conditions for alcoholic fermentation were tailored to suit the
highest potential of each vat. Following blending to specifications, the
wine was transferred into French oak barrels for 12 months maturation.
The barrels were stored in 17th century cellars until the wine turned into
deeply scented and distinguished claret. Alsace
