This Kirkland Signature 2005 Red Wine is sourced 100% from the top
vineyards of Errazuriz in Aconcagua Valley, Chile. A region with a
Mediterranean climate that features moderately warm summer days and
cooling afternoon breezes. The 2005 vintage was very successful. Summer
was moderately warm with uninterrupted sunshine, and cooling afternoon
breezes. Harvest began in the middle of April and lasted until the 17th of May producing grapes of great intensity
and concentration with ripe acidity. Warm days and cool nights during harvest intensified the grapes flavors even
more and improved phenolics.
The grapes for this Kirkland Signature wine were hand-picked throughout April and May, carefully hand-sorted
and gently crushed into stainless steel tanks for fermentation at 26 to 30° Celsius (79 to 86°F), with two to three
pump overs per day. Total maceration varied from 20 to 30 days, depending on the development of the individual
lots. All lots were aged for 12 months in 50% new oak barrels, 80% French and 20% American.
This Kirkland Signature Red Wine from Chile’s Aconcagua Valley has a deep dark black center with bright purple
shades. Aromas and flavors of blackberry concentrate, cassis and blackcherry jam with cedar notes. The palate has
an impressive fruit concentration with sweet spices such as cinnamon or
clove. The structure is firm and powerful. This wine is approachable now
and will continue to improve over the next 5 to 7 years due to the intense
concentration of fruit and well-integrated French and American Oak.
