Tasting Notes:
This Ultra-Premium Kirkland Signature Añejo Tequila is blended by Master Distiller
Arturo Fuentes. The finely aged tequila is dark amber in color and features smooth pepper
and smoky wood flavors with a hints of sweet spice, vanilla, honey maple and caramel. The
savory, spicy finish is long and complex. The alcohol content and viscosity allow the
components to invade the whole mouth, giving the sensation of roundness accentuating the
light smoky flavor.
Tequila Process:
Kirkland Signature Añejo Tequila is made 100% from some of the finest
blue agave available. The 50-70 pound, hand selected, hand picked agaves
are an average of 8 years old when harvested in Jalisco, Mexico. The agave
leaves are cut away to form piñas, the ripe core of the plant. The piñas are
cut into quarters and baked in a steam oven, where the natural starches are
converted to sugar. The baked piñas are then shredded, and the juices are
pressed out and placed in fermentation tanks. After fermentation, the juices
are distilled twice in stainless steel pot stills resulting in a superior spirit
that is transferred to American oak barrels for aging. The barrels used to
blend are between one-year and six-years-old. An “extra aged” Tequila is
an average age of three years old.
