The Rutherford AVA, in the heart of Napa Valley, is known for its unique terroir of volcanic-influenced
soil laced with gravel, sand and loam. Historically, the Rutherford AVA has been one of the most recognized high-quality areas in Napa Valley for the production of the classic “Bordeaux varietals”, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. This tiny appellation under 6700
acres is just 16% of the total Napa Valley AVA land mass. 2009 was a top vintage in Rutherford with
fruit obtaining high levels of ripeness, resolved tannins and bright acidity. The growing conditions were
ideal until late October when a threat of storms accelerated the harvest. Across the board grape growers
and winemakers were quite happy with the results from 2009.

The 2009 Kirkland Signature Meritage is a classic Cabernet-dominated Meritage, which is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15%
Merlot, 12% Petit Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc from select Rutherford AVA vineyards. “The rich, ripe, black fruit notes of black
cherry jam and cassis are layered with integrated oak spice notes. A
ripe acidity follows a seamless thread through this multidimensional
wine as it displays the inviting notes of classic Rutherford Dust”,
according to winemakers: Marco DiGiulio and Zach Long. Drink
now through 2014.
