New arrivals: November 2011
Vineyards and vintage
Kirkland Signature 2009 Bordeaux Supérieur, a
wine composed of Merlot (70 percent) and Cabernet
Sauvignon ( 30 percent), is produced in vineyards
containing heavy deposits of gravel and rich alluvial
soil. This particular terroir is situated 12 miles
southeast of the city of Bordeaux. The composition
of the soil is conducive to proper drainage and aids
in fertility. It warms quickly in the spring and maintains ideal conditions during the summer. The
yields remain low due to traditional Bordelaise
pruning, debudding and thinning of vine shoots.
With its hot days and cool nights, 2009 was con-
sidered a great vintage year, promoting exceptional
fruit ripeness. The harvest took place from late
September for the Merlot, to the middle of October
for the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Food and wine pairing
This wine, with its full ripe red fruit and crisp
finish, should be paired with roasted red meat such
as beef or lamb. An excellent partner for our
Kirkland Signature 2009 Bordeaux Supérieur would
be a roasted leg of lamb infused with rosemary and
garlic. The wine will also marry very well with duck,
goose or other full-flavored game dishes.
