Apple-Pear Golden Brownies

1 cup packed light
brown sugar
½ cup butter, melted
1 large egg
2 Starr Ranch Growers
Gala or Pink Lady apples
1 Diamond Starr Growers
Bosc pear
½ cup to;ee chips
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose ;our
¼ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon
ground cinnamon
Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-by-9-inch
baking pan.
In a large bowl, mix sugar, melted butter and
egg until ;u;y.
Peel and core apples and pear, then cut into
small cubes. Fold into the egg mixture, along
with to;ee chips and vanilla.
In a separate bowl, sift together ;our, salt,
baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon.
Stir the dry mixture into the wet mixture until
just blended. Spread the batter evenly in the
prepared pan.
Bake for 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted
in the center comes out clean. Remove from the
oven and let stand for 5 minutes before cutting
into squares.

Quaker/Tropicana
1 7-ounce package diced
dried mixed fruit bits
;⁄; cup Tropicana
orange juice*
1½ teaspoons apple
pie spice or ground
cinnamon, divided
1¾ cups whole-wheat
or all-purpose ;our
1½ cups Quaker Oats
(quick or old-fashioned,
uncooked)*
½ pound butter, softened
1 cup ;rmly packed
brown sugar
½ cup chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 375°F.
In a medium bowl, blend dried fruit, banana,
juice and 1 teaspoon apple pie spice.
In another bowl, blend ;our, oats and ½ teaspoon
apple pie spice.
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar with an
electric mixer until creamy. Add oat mixture;
beat until crumbly. Reserve ¾ cup for topping.
Press remaining oat mixture into a 13-by-9-inch
baking pan. Bake for 13-15 minutes, or until
light golden brown.
Spread fruit evenly over crust to within ¼ inch of
edge. Add nuts to the reserved oat mixture; mix
well. Sprinkle evenly over fruit; pat down lightly.
Bake for 16-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool
completely; cut into bars. Makes 10-12 servings.
* If using old-fashioned oats, decrease orange
juice to ½ cup.
