World vision
I just wanted to comment on Rick Steves’
article “Think Globally” in your February issue.
It hit the nail right on the head. Americans
dominate the world, but American voters know
very little of substance about the world.
This point has been made before,
but Mr. Steves states it without
offense and in a very compelling
way. Thanks for printing it.

Rick Steves states in his
article, “if more Americans
traveled before they voted,
they would elect a government
with policies that don’t put us
at odds with the rest of the
world.” The Costco Connection
should be ashamed. Even if it
is his opinion, you’ve allowed
this kind of political posturing, and it devalues the standards of fair play and quality
journalism that you strive to uphold.

The wine is fine
My husband and I just returned from
a wine-focused tour of Argentina and Chile.
When we were tasting wines at Viña Montes
in the Colchagua Valley, I proposed a toast
to Costco for introducing us to some of
the Montes wines, and to the distributor
for having the wisdom
to sell to Costco. The
distributor there said that
in the beginning they had
had doubts about Costco,
but it was becoming clear
to them that Costco carried some very fine wines.
Your wine buyers would
have been pleased at the
many voices in the room
that joined in the acclaim
for Costco’s wine selection.
