New discount-ticket
platform added to
Event Tickets program
IN CONTINUING THE expansion of the
Costco Event Tickets service, Costco has entered
into an agreement with Tix Corporation, a
company that pioneered the concept of selling
last-minute Las Vegas show tickets at half price.
Costco members are able to purchase
reserved tickets online for Broadway theaters, Madison Square Garden, the NBA,
NASCAR and many touring Broadway and
Las Vegas shows, such as Mamma Mia! and
Wicked, through more than 70 different production companies.
This new agreement with Costco will
capitalize on Tix’s expertise and success in
the discount-ticket arena by expanding its
services throughout the United States to offer
members advance and last-minute discount
tickets for up to 50 percent off face value. In
addition to selling more than 1 million tickets for Las Vegas shows in 2008, Tix also sold
more than 250,000 discount dinner reservations for 30 Las Vegas–area restaurants.
Examples of new shows
The goal is to increase event offerings on
Costco’s expanded Web site as quickly as possible, keeping in mind the requests made by
members during the “preference” registration.
Examples of shows that may be covered in
this program include Cirque du Soleil, Penn
& Teller, David Copperfield, Blue Man Group,
Lord of the Dance, Bob the Builder, King Tut
exhibit tours and many other shows. Planned
for fall 2009 is the New York–Broadway debut
of 101 Dalmatians.
