In response to the July Debate,
“Should the U.S. invest in high-speed rail lines?”
NO. There are other, more important issues to
address and better ways to spend that money
in regard to our current economic situation.

the world,” July 2009)! Greg’s story was so
inspiring and encouraging, and the Web site
dedicated to his work (

wonderful place to lose yourself.
MEDIA BAKERY
We were all touched by his story, and
vowed to do anything we could to help promote education, here and abroad. Realizing
that we could help supply schoolchildren in
Afghanistan and Pakistan with pencils and
paper for just pennies was certainly eye-opening. Several schools in our area have
contributed to the Pennies for Peace fund.
Thank you so much for profiling all the
true American heroes in your stories of
Costco members who are making a difference here and abroad. Their stories warm
our hearts and bring a tear to our eyes.

YES. We need to improve our rail system to
cut traffic congestion, cut dependence on foreign oil and improve the environment. This
will lead to many innovations that change the
way we travel in America.

In response to the June Debate, “Do
timesaving devices really save time?”
NO. Often you spend more time checking
e-mails, texts, etc. on cellphones and PDAs—a
huge time waster.
Brush with fate
Your article “Brush up at Costco” (Buying
Smart, July 2009) was right on!
As a board-certified periodontist in full-time private practice, I see on a daily basis the
great clinical results of patients placed on the
home care regimen you have recommended.
This regimen can reduce the need for surgery
and improve a patient’s overall health.
The Waterpik dental water jet has more
than 40 years of solid research behind it. By
the way, mixing a little Listerine with the
water in the reservoir of the dental water jet
can provide even better results than using the
jet irrigator with water alone.

Don’t decorate and depart
I know people who only do repairs and
painting when ready to market. “Selling
your house ... someday?” (July 2009) was a
good reminder to fix our homes up to enjoy
ourselves instead of waiting until we are
ready to sell.

Laughing through the pain
Thank you for publishing the “Peals that
heal” article (June 2009).
I know the therapeutic value of laughter
and humor. I learned it from my wife, who
died from a rare liver disease at the age of 34.
It was such a powerful and valuable tool.
It gave me the courage to go on with my life
and to raise my then 10-year-old daughter.
It also changed my life. For more than 20
years, I have shared with audiences nationwide how humor and laughter helped me get
through that loss. Peals do indeed heal.

ALL PRODUCTS advertised are carried
at Costco warehouses unless otherwise
noted; however, products may not be
available in all warehouse locations.
■ Products are scheduled to be available
during the period of The Connection’s
issue date.
■ All ads indicate whether a product is
available only in the warehouse, only
on Costco.com or both.
■ Prices are usually not listed in the
advertising because they have not
been finalized at the time of printing
and may vary from one part of the
country to another due to shipping
costs. We hope that members know
to check Costco first when comparison
shopping.
■ To keep prices low, Costco does not
offer a telephone service allowing
members to call in for prices or product availability.
■ Shop early in the month for best selection on seasonal products.
■
Costco.com carries few of the products
available at the warehouses, but offers
3,500 additional items, including line
extensions and supplemental products.
