The Connection received numerous member responses to the June 2009 articles on disaster preparedness (“Disaster preparedness in the
home”; “Disaster preparedness tips for business”). Here are some additional steps they
recommend.—Ed.
Keep some cash on hand if you need to
purchase anything, as stores might not be able
to process credit or debit cards.
Always have a backup list of your account
numbers, policy numbers and important
phone numbers available.
Take photos of your possessions and how
they are set up in their various rooms, and
record their model and serial numbers to
keep in a safe place.
Always have copies of your driver’s license,
passport and birth certificate in case they are
needed for identification after a disaster.

Thank you for featuring our Web site as
a resource in Costco’s 2008 Household
Almanac. [Available online at Costco.com;
enter “almanac” into the search box.] We’ve
recently done a major expansion of our
sites, including brand-new free guides, such
as “Safe Family Emergency Tips,” “Safe
Student Emergency Tips” and “Seven Steps
to NOK Notification” for healthcare professionals. They can be found at
www.nokep.

We’ve also added full action plans that
give families and college students all the
checklists, plans and inventories/forms they
need to prepare for nearly any medical emergency or disaster in only one afternoon. They
include grab-it-and-go forms, wallet cards
and emergency plans (

Golf follow-through
My wife and I just returned from our
annual pilgrimage to the Phil Ritson–Mel Sole
Golf School and saw their story in your magazine (“Love links,” Member Connection, June
2009). We both recommend this school highly
to anyone looking to enjoy their golf more.
The teachers make learning fun and truly
inspire you to commit to a practice plan.

Cover-to-cover connection
We are new members of Costco in
Altamonte Springs, Florida, just north of
Orlando, and we’ve really enjoyed our privileges from prescriptions to food to new eyeglasses.
When The Costco Connection magazine
comes I read it from cover to cover. There
are so many interesting articles, from
Michael J. Fox (“On the bright side of life,”
April 2009) to Ann Mulcahy (“No carbon
copy,” June 2009). I especially enjoyed the
social networking article (“Getting the buzz
going,” June 2009), and since I am an avid
reader and member of a great book club, I
love the book reviews and love to see some
of my favorite authors interviewed.
