WITH THE INDULGENCE of the holidays behind us,
January is a great month to focus on restoring personal
and financial health. We’ve included many tips and articles on both topics, starting with our cover story on the
Costco Pharmacy program, on page 30.
Costco is committed to saving our members money
on prescriptions. We offer enormous savings on branded
or generic prescriptions compared with the prices charged
by most other pharmacies. And, as Vic Curtis, Costco
Pharmacy senior vice president, explains, our cash price
on generic prescriptions may actually cost less than the
typical insurance co-payment. Prescriptions can also be
renewed 24/7 on Costco.com or via the Costco app (available for Apple and Android
devices) and mailed directly to your home or to your local warehouse for pickup.
In addition to being a great place to fill prescriptions, Costco pharmacies offer many
other health and wellness services, including low-cost immunizations, healthcare clinics
such as Healthy Heart and more. Costco Pharmacy can even save you money on the
most common meds for your pets!
Also take a look at For Your Health, a special section beginning on page 36. It’s filled
with additional personal-health articles about vitamins, nutrition, anti-aging skin care,
exercise and fitness, plus a guide for making the right medical decisions for you.
Your Costco membership also offers many opportunities to improve your overall
financial health. Think Costco first before booking your next vacation, renting a vehicle,
buying your next car, purchasing health insurance, investing in stocks or mutual funds,
or insuring your home or auto. Costco has negotiated special discounts on top-quality
services to help you save on a wide variety of personal, financial and business services.
We’ve included articles on many of our services in this issue, starting on page 87.
Last but not least, be sure to take advantage of the many instant savings we are offering on furniture, small appliances and household items in our warehouses and on
Costco.com this month. You’ll find many of our instant savings starting on page 68.
Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year from all of us at Costco! C

EVERY TWO YEARS or so, on the occasion of the New
Year, I give my close family a selection of quotations I
have jotted down in a computer file I have kept for more
than two decades. Here is a selection from that selection.
I hope you will find these wise words from all corners of
the globe, from centuries past and from the wisest wags
of the day, as inspirational as I have.
“Freedom of will is the ability to do gladly that which
I must do.”—Carl Jung
David W. Fuller is Assistant
Vice President, Publishing, and
Editor of The Costco Connection.
“Think of all the beauty still left around you and
be happy.”—Anne Frank
“Always be kind, for everyone is fighting a hard battle.”—Plato
“The great virtue of man lies in his ability to correct his mistakes and continually
make a new man of himself.”—Wang Yang-Ming
“Life is a shipwreck, but we must not forget to sing in the lifeboats.”—Voltaire
“Underlying all the voices I hope you will hear a unifying consciousness, telling the
old story of going out and coming home, as if by firelight in a cave, so that the children
listening now with upturned faces will know, when their turn comes, that others have
gone before and that they are not alone.”—James Tarrant
“Rejoice that you have come so far.”—Phil Cousineau
Happy New Year to all. C
