WHEN IT COMES to Kirkland Signature™ items, our buyers are always looking for ways to make them better, even if they’re already a hit with our members. Such was the case with our Kirkland Signature Pesto.

The formulation was upgraded to include Genovese basil, which is renowned for its sweeter taste and rich oil content. This high-quality basil is grown in Genoa, Italy, and is the only basil that has a protected designation of origin on the market (referred to as the Denominazione d’Origine Protetta, or DOP, on the bottle).

This pesto’s other raw ingredients all meet high standards for quality. “Our teams have taken everything they know about buying olive oil, Pecorino Romano and pine nuts as stand-alone items, and applied those same standards to ensure that we’re only putting the highest-quality ingredients in our pesto,” says Marc Statdfield, assistant buyer at Costco.

Other pestos often use almonds instead of traditional pine nuts, and an abundance of canola oil instead of olive oil. And they’re usually sold for higher prices in smaller containers. This 22-ounce jar sells for $7.99.

Marc says, “When poured over warm pasta, the Kirkland Signature Pesto maintains its bright, naturally vibrant color. Try it with our Kirkland Signature Tortelloni, ravioli or spread it on your favorite bread to make a delicious sandwich.
