DEBATE GOES ON
In response to the November debate, “Should
daylight saving time be eliminated?”
NO I say we stay on DST always. To the folks who
say, reasonably, that they do not want their children
going to school in the dark, let’s start school later. It
it is not good for children to wake them so early.

YES ;is is an old habit that has no value. And it
especially hurts businesses.

FEEDBACK
Breast cancer in men
;ank you for your informative article [“Breast
cancer: ;e numbers you need to know”] in your
October 2016 issue. ;is is a very serious disease that
a;ects tens of thousands of women. However, o;en
ignored and unmentioned is the fact that men also
can and do develop breast cancer. ;e number is
small—about 2,600 cases diagnosed annually—but
the loss of a man to breast cancer is just as tragic. Men
should not die from breast cancer out of ignorance.
An excellent source is the
Komen.org website
of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
I speak from the perspective of an 83-year-old man
who developed breast cancer in 1988.

Skin cancer awareness
I wanted to give a shout out to The Costco
Connection magazine and your article on basal cell
carcinoma (BCC) awareness [October 2016]. I had
been thinking about seeing a dermatologist for a
very long time to get a skin check, and kept putting
it o;. Reading this brief article, I realized that this
perfectly described a lump that I had and immediately scheduled an appointment with a dermatologist for the ;rst time.
Sure enough, the biopsy came back as BCC, and
as I type this, a day a;er my surgery, I wanted to let
you know the impact of your article.
During the procedure, I mentioned that your
article prompted my action to have a skin check and
biopsy. ;e doctor was impressed that I had read
about BCC in ;e Connection.

Cleaner dishes
I had to share this information with you about
the Kirkland Signature™ Dishwasher Pacs. I’ve been
using a di;erent brand for washing dishes and over
the past two to three years have been very frustrated
as a cloudy ;lm built up on the glasses. Last month
I decided to switch to the Kirkland Signature brand,
and I have been so surprised at the results. My new
glasses have no ;lm on them, and the ;lm on the
old glasses is slowly coming o;. I’ve shared this great
information with several family members and
friends because they have been frustrated over the
same problem. Once again, the Kirkland Signature
brand has come through as the No. 1 choice to buy.

Be sure to read about Kirkland Signature laundry products in the Buying Smart column in next month’s issue

Inspired to succeed
I just wanted to send a note to say thank you to
;e Costco Connection. An article in your magazine
from October 2004 changed our lives.
;e article was about startup businesses for
people over 50 [“Ni;y a;er 50”]. I turned the page
to read about 78-year-old Edna Anderson and
her husband. ;ey were raising alpacas, and making
a good income, on a small piece of land not ;ve
miles from where we were living.
We called, then visited, then visited two other
alpaca farms, put our little house in the subdivision
up for sale, bought 5 acres and have been happily
raising and selling alpacas ever since (crookedfence
alpacas.com). Our son is involved too. We expanded
our alpaca adventures in 2009 to include a ;ber-processing mill where we do custom processing of
alpaca ;ber for alpaca breeders from coast to coast.
Life is good on our little farm.

ADVERTISING
AND PRODUCTS
All ads indicate whether a
product is available in the
warehouse, on Costco.com or
both. Products are scheduled
to be available during The
Connection’s month of publication and are noted as in warehouse “early in month” (1st to
10th), “mid-month” (11th to 21st)
or “late in month” (22nd to 31st).
Shop early in the month for the
best selection of seasonal items.
Costco.com carries many of the
products available at the warehouses, and offers thousands of
additional items, including line

listed because they have not
been finalized at the time of
printing and may vary from one
part of the country to another
due to shipping costs. We hope
members know to check Costco
first when comparison shopping.
To keep prices low, Costco does
not offer a telephone service
allowing members to call in for
prices or product availability.
