Let me text my wife across the
room and ask her.

It’s about how you control your
usage of them. If they are hurting
your relationship because you
spend so much time on them, then
you and your impulses are what
is really hurting your relationship.
Saying a smartphone hurt your relationship is like saying a spoon made
you fat.
—Nicholas Gerace
When you’re sitting in the same
room [and you're] on your phone,
probably not that great. When your
husband’s deployed on the other
side of the world: lifesaver.
—Ilana Bailey
Exchanging memes all day at work
has kept my spouse and I close
when the hours physically together
are few. All about how you use ’em.
—Steven Taylor
Smartphones make dumb people …
they have relationships with their
phones and ignore what goes on
around them.
—Debbie Jacquard
I talk to my husband more than I
would otherwise because of the
phone. I’d have to get up and walk
into the next room if we didn’t
have them.
—Nicole Salinas
Yes and no. They can help and hurt.
As with any technology, the use is
what matters. Like a car, a gun or a
sledgehammer, a phone is not inherently good or evil. It's the user who
decides its nature.
—Travis Maxwell
The big problem is that people who
previously assumed that if you were
in the same area as them, you were
focusing on them, have had their
illusion shattered.

Are smartphones having
a negative impact on our
relationships?
SMARTPHONES HAVE become indispensable tools in our daily
lives. However, some people believe the constant distraction of
smartphones impedes interpersonal relationships. Others feel the
ability to have frequent contact through voice and video calls or
text messaging, regardless of physical distance, helps to foster and
support those relationships.
