Considering February is
Heart Month (and has
Valentine’s Day!), perhaps
the timing is perfect to consider an Apple Watch to help
keep tabs on your health
throughout ;;;;, and
beyond. Here’s a glimpse at
how an Apple Watch could
help you during your day.
6:00 a.m. Apple Watch’s
vibrating alarm wakes you
up—without disturbing your
signi;cant other. While getting dressed, you glance at
the animated watch face—
today it’s a dancing Mickey
Mouse—which shows the
current weather and when
your ;rst calendar appointment is.
6: 45 a.m. Raise your wrist
and say, “Hey, Siri, workout.”
Select “outdoor run” from
the list of exercises, followed
by a time, calorie burn or distance goal. Bluetooth headphones let you listen to music
playing on the watch during
your workout. Your watch
can calculate your heart rate on the run. While the
Apple Watch shows your ;tness progress, you can
open the companion app on your iPhone for a
10: 15 a.m. While at the o;ce, you feel a tap on
your wrist and look at the screen: “BBQ for dinner?” While you could reply to your partner with
a pre-set answer, or dictate a new one, instead you
send an animated thumbs-up. While you’re at it,
you tell your watch to remind you to pick up ;owers at ; p.m.
12 p.m. The Apple Watch noti;es you of an
upcoming appointment at a new coffee shop.
You’re not quite sure where it is, so you tap to open
the Maps app to get turn-by-turn directions. A call
comes in while you’re walking down the street.
You answer it on your watch and leave your phone
in your pocket.
3: 30 p.m. Back at the o;ce, you’ve been sitting
at your desk for a while, so your wrist buzzes to tell
you to stand up and move around a bit. While getting a glass of water from the cooler, you check the
Activity app on the watch, which shows how near
you are to your daily movement goals. You’re close
to earning a badge!
5: 15 p.m. You pick up
;owers to bring home and
tap your Apple Watch on
the contactless terminal at
the checkout counter.
Instantly and securely, the
transaction is completed—
and you never had to reach
for cash or cards. You
business trip and raise
your wrist to ask Siri to
book a lunch reservation
for two via Open Table.
7: 25 p.m. Your favorite
basketball team is up ;;
points at halftime—
something a discreet glance at
your wrist tells you while
you’re helping clean up
after dinner. A couple of
swipes across the screen
show how your stocks did
today, some email you need
to deal with in the morning
and a reminder to check in
to tomorrow’s ;ight.
9: 35 p.m. After a relaxing round of Trivia Crack—
netic charging “puck” to the back of the watch
THE APPLE Watch has a built-in
accelerometer to count number of
steps, total distance traveled, calories burned and other details—as
well as an integrated heart-rate sensor to track your workout’s intensity.
But that’s just the beginning.
The Apple Watch can help accurately monitor many different physical
activities and can connect to smart
gym equipment. With a feature called
GymKit, Apple Watch syncs with compatible workout machines, such as
treadmills and ellipticals. Simply tap
your watch against the machine and
the two are instantly paired. This
wireless handshake ensures your
watch delivers more accurate info,
such as calorie burn estimates.
The Apple lab has been rigorously
studying exercise monitoring and calculation for the past five years. With
tens of thousands of sessions tracked
over the years, Apple is determined
