COSTCO MEMBER HONORED
Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Costco member Mandy Manning,
the 2018 National Teacher of the Year. Manning, who
has been teaching for nearly two decades, works with
refugee students in Spokane, Washington, teaching
them English and math.
The Council of Chief State School Officers selec-
tion committee said in a statement that “Mandy is a
strong educator who believes in a great public
education for every student and has a unique
perspective on meeting the needs of some of our
nation’s most vulnerable children. … Her fierce belief
in her students, unwavering commitment to their
learning, and demonstrated efforts to ensure that they
can be successful both in school and in life make her
an exceptional educator and why we selected her to
be the 2018 National Teacher of the Year.”
Manning says anyone who “has the heart for
teaching should do it. Yes, there are struggles … but
students need strong and caring adults who will be
there for them.”
