Food thoughts
any stories and advertisements in this
issue of the Connection offer great advice
for the holidays. There’s so much going
on at Costco at this time of year to help
you prepare for all the festivities, but the areas that
amaze me most are our food departments.
As you prepare your holiday meals, I recommend
that you follow this road map in your local Costco.
First, load up on all the staples needed for your meals,
spices for a variety of dishes, beverages and so on.
Then head for the bakery department, where you’ll
find a selection of delicious specialties that are
brought in only for this time of year—and change
from year to year, as our bakery operators always like
to try something new. Look for the Harvest Spice
Cheesecake before Thanksgiving and a three-pack
Holiday Variety Loaf from mid-October through
Christmas. And ... the Peppermint Bark!
Next, find the famous Costco pumpkin pies. Yes,
pumpkin pies are usually associated with Thanksgiving (we sell over ; million in the days just before
Thanksgiving), but they make a wonderful and
affordable dessert in October and December as well.
Make your way to the fresh fruit area for apples,
oranges and more (homemade apple pie is a personal
favorite!). Wheel your cart into the walk-in coolers for
fresh produce—our salad kits are really convenient.
Swing by the cheese selection, and last, visit the deli
coolers. This is where you’ll find a selection of premade foods that are ready to be popped into the oven
as main or side dishes. Our food buyers love to present
new options during the holidays. See what they’ve
come up with this year. We’re sure you’ll be pleased.
And another convenient option: home delivery
through CostcoGrocery. This new service can make
food preparation easier. Go to Costco.com and select
“Grocery” for details. Let the gladness begin!
